JEE Main (NTA)
About JEE
JEE, which stands for Joint Entrance Exam, is the most well-known engineering entrance exam in India that allows students to enrol in undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes at prestigious Indian Technical Institutes.
Types of JEE Exams:
- Paper 1 of JEE Main (B.Tech); Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning)
- JEE Advanced: Paper 1 (B.Tech); Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning)
- The curriculum for both of these JEE Main exams (B.Tech/BE & B.Arch) is based on the material taught in grades 11 and 12.

JEE at a Glance
An overview of the Institutes & JEE Exams that students must pass in order to apply for UG admissions in a potential Institute is provided below:
- IITs are among the top-ranked institutions worldwide and the most prominent institutions in India. Through the JEE Advance Rank-Based Seat Allocation Process, students can enrol in IITs.
- The NITs & CFTIs for engineering & architecture programmes are located next to IITs. Through their JEE Main Rank, students can participate in the CSAB Counseling to apply for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
- Along with the institutions already listed, the top 200 SFTIs (Self Financed Technical Institutes), according to the NIRF India Rankings, also take part in the CSAB Counseling for student admissions based on their JEE Main Ranks.
- Beyond India, more students are becoming interested in JEE preparation, particularly those from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and a few more nations. JEE has also been the exam of choice for NRI candidates.
- There are IITs in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar, Roorkee, and Varanasi, among other cities.
History of JEE
A uniform admission test was once offered by CBSE for enrollment in different undergraduate engineering programmes. This exam was held offline and was known as the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination).
One of the seven IITs had a separate exam called IIT-JEE for applicants to the IITs (zones). AIEEE and IIT-JEE were superseded in 2013 by JEE Main and JEE Advanced, respectively.
JEE Main will be administered by NTA starting in 2019 whereas JEE Advanced will still be administered by one of the seven IITs.

NTA Introduced Changes
Here are the significant modifications that NTA made to the JEE Main 2011 Examinations that will be used for the JEE 2022 and 2023 Exams as well as years afterward until they are modified once again by the relevant authorities:
- From 2019, JEE Main will take place twice annually, giving JEE hopefuls and students more possibilities.
- The exams will be administered in 8 different venues so that students can select the most convenient exam day for them.
- The JEE Main Exams are scheduled for January and April, giving students plenty of time to get ready for their board exams.
- If a student takes both tests in the same year, the best of the two results will be used as the candidate’s final scores.
- In order to prepare students for computer-based exams, the NTA created about 3000 centres in 2021.
- Your Class 12th enrollment number or roll number won’t need to be verified.
- There are now 258 more test locations for the JEE Main Exam, including 248 in India and 10 abroad.
Is there an NRI quota in NITs?
NITs have certain reserved places for NRI students under the DASA scheme, which is not exactly an NRI quota. The DASA quota represents 15% of the institute’s overall seat capacity. Admission to DASA/CIWG seats would be dependent on JEE Main score.
What is the Gulf quota in Indian engineering colleges?
Gulf quota at engineering colleges in India is a specific quota offered by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under the DASA scheme for the children of gulf workers in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Seats under the DASA system are reserved for gulf quota at NITs, IIITs, and other top technical schools.
NRI students can gain admission to NITs by directly applying for and passing the JEE Main test, rather than through the DASA scheme. DASA admissions will be based on JEE Main ranks rather than SAT scores beginning in 2021-22.
BITS, on the other hand, has no NRI quota. The BITSAT online test is used to determine admission to BTech/BE engineering programmes at BITS-Pilani. View all BITSAT exam information.
NRI students in NITs pay the same tuition as Indian students if they gain admission through JEE Main. However, if you are chosen via the DASA plan, your cost will be more than usual. Candidates for the CIWG must pay the same fee as Indian nationals.
NRI students must submit the following documents when applying for JEE: scanned clean passport photograph and signature, Grade 10 and 12 or equivalent qualifying exam mark-sheet, and one ID proof. Students must carry their Admit Card and ID to the JEE exam.
Can NRI students take the JEE outside of India?
Yes, an NRI student can take the JEE exam outside of India. JEE exam centres have been provided by NTA in the following cities outside India: Manama (Bahrain), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Doha (Qatar), Dubai (UAE), Kathmandu (Nepal), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuwait City (Kuwait), Muscat (Oman), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Sharjah (UAE), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Abuja/La (Vietnam).
